Read a little about how the team assisted a System z client with SAP. Are you next?

New SAP on System z
A new SAP on System z client from the public sector needed IBM Systems Lab Services and Training to build and test a DB2 infrastructure.  Activities included:
  • Configuration and build of ten new standalone DB2 subsystems
  • Collaboration on the z/OS constructs required to support a DB2/SAP on System z environment
  • SMS and ACS routines for proper data set placement
  • ICF Catalog definitions
  • Storage groups for flash targets
  • Copy pool definitions
  • Standard System z subsystem definitions
  • Testing and use of FlashCopy with and without the DB2 Backup System utility
  • Setup and testing of the Workload Manager (WLM) Stored Procedures environment

IBM Systems Lab Services and Training is in a unique position to provide assistance for clients that build such DB2 SAP environments but do not have such skills in-house. Knowledge of the key components that support the SAP on DB2 for System z solution are vital to the success of this solution, and we were able to provide this to the client.

All of the requisite subsystems were built and delivered ahead of the project schedule.  The initial DB2/SAP environment landscape has been built, and future opportunities lie in the adoption of an high availability (HA) environment, the introduction of DB2 data sharing, and performance and tuning of the overall environment.
